Local legend, Todd Blanchfield is returning home for the 2018 QBL season after signing with the McDonald’s Meteors. The 6ft 7in shooting guard/forward committed to the club earlier in the week and is looking forward to a big year with the McDonald’s Meteors. Currently completing the NBL season with the Sydney Kings, the Australian Boomers squad member will join the Meteors at the completion of the NBL season.
“This signing is massive for our organisation and we are extremely proud to be bringing one of our local legends back to town to help Mackay compete for a QBL championship in 2018” said Business Development Manager, Wade Rebetzke. We have always been looking to bring Todd back to the program, however in past years it has been difficult with National duties and NBL commitments, but we extremely happy that he has been able to commit to the group this year.
Head Coach Cameron Tragardh said, “Any day you can bring back a Mackay junior and club legend is a great day. Not only is Todd one of, if not the best small forward in the country, he is an outstanding person with great values and passion to represent his city. Mackay is a great place for Todd to work on his personal goals at the same time as chasing a title for Mackay. It is a great fit and we are really excited to have him back playing in the Crater at McDonald’s Mackay Stadium this season.
Blanchfield is extremely excited at the opportunity this season as well.
Blanchfield said, “Mackay is home for me, so to be given the opportunity to come home and represent my hometown is always something special.”
“It will be great to be playing alongside some good mates and familiar faces, and I am looking forward to helping the McDonald’s Meteors be extremely successful on the floor again in 2018.”
