Darryn Roche – Head Coach Bundaberg Bears
“On the weekend we found ourselves against a Logan team that has been struggling this year and really came out of the blocks aggressive and focused on causing an upset. We struggled to match their intensity early but showed plenty of heart to claw our way back from 17 points down to eventually lose by 2.
“After a positive start to the year we find ourselves in a bit of a rough patch at the moment but with the past three games I feel we are moving towards where we need to be. We have been lacking consistency this season, so lately we have been really working on our execution of offense and defense.
“This season I feel the league is much closer than previous years as on any night any team can come away with the win. There have been some really close games and the league in general is of a higher standard than previous years.”
Brad Melton – Head Coach Suncoast Clippers Men
“Over the past three weekends the Suncoast Clippers have faced some of the top teams in the QBL. Against Brisbane we played very well and came out with a 4-point victory. It was tougher going for the Clippers against Cairns and we eventually lost by 19 due to being outscored 30 to 10 in the second quarter. Against a very good Rockhampton side we played perhaps our best game of the season but, ended up losing by 7 with last year’s league MVP Tapscott taking over in the final 4 minutes and sealing the victory for the home team. After putting all possible energy into the Rockhampton game, we ended up taking a beating from perhaps the best side in the league in the very deep and well rounded Mackay team who has also managed to soundly beat a number of other teams in the league.
“On paper the Clippers cannot match up with many of the teams in the QBL but, we have shown what can actually be accomplished with teamwork in our wins along with a couple of our closer losses against top tier teams in the league.
“This week we will work to bounce back at home in Maroochydore against the Gold Coast side and then to continue to finish out the season over the next few weeks on a positive note.”
