South West Metro are proud to announce their coaches for the 2018 QBL Season, Mick Downer for the Men’s team and Jason Chainey for the Women’s team!
Mick Downer
Current Brisbane Bullets Assistant Coach, Mick Downer will lead our Pirates Mens team for the 2018 QBL Season. Mick has been involved in the QBL program for the last two seasons. Coach Downer is no stranger to the court, with an impressive coaching resume:
- Assistant Coach Cairns Taipan NBL
- Assistant Coach Perth Wildcats NBL
- Boomers Assistant Coach at the 2016 Rio Olympics

Jason Chainey
South West Metro Pirates proudly welcomes back Jason Chainey as the QBL Women’s Head Coach for 2018. Coach Chainey has had great success with the Pirates Women’s team leading the club to back to back grand final appearances. Jason has coached WNBL and is leading a push to have an SEQ team return to WNBL. Jason regularly spends time with Sandy Brondello, Head Coach of the Phoenix Mercury WNBA team to develop his craft. It will no doubt be an exciting season ahead with Jason at the helm!
