Rockhampton Basketball are excited to announce the arrival of Interim General Manager Ryan Burns filling the soon to be vacant position, with current General Manager Mathew Neason finishing his contract at the end of the week.
Ryan will take on a 3 Month contract to provide the necessary leadership whilst the Association progresses through a comprehensive recruitment process to source a suitable candidate to take on the role in a permanent capacity.
Growing up in Melbourne, Ryan was a leading junior coach and referee with the Bulleen Boomers Basketball Club before taking his passion to the Pacific region where he delivered FIBA development initiatives throughout Oceania over 5 years.
Ryan is somewhat of an international coaching and sports management journeyman having been based in Asia over the past 3 years working in consulting roles with the KL Dragons (ASEAN Basketball League), Phoenix Fuelmasters (Philippines Basketball Association) and most recently a year with NBA India delivering the Jr. NBA and NBA Basketball Schools programs as Technical Director based in Mumbai and New Delhi.
A previous Assistant Coach with the Bundaberg QBL program in 2012-13 Ryan is no stranger to Central Queensland and is excited to make a significant contribution across the range of club programs.
“I must say it was a humbling call to receive to take on such a role, but the pieces seem to fit for everyone involved. I’m looking forward to being involved with one of Queensland’s leading basketball clubs.”
Outgoing General Manager Mathew Neason has worked with Burns in previous roles, and has seen firsthand what he will bring to the Association. “Ryan is an elite coach and administrator. It’s a great coup for the Association to attract someone of his standing within the sport” said Neason.
“Whilst there are always challenges when an organisation loses key staff, I’m confident the transition will be greatly assisted with Ryan’s appointment” Neason continued.
Ryan officially starts his contract this week.
