Basketball Queensland Statement
Last weekend the Southern Basketball League (SBL) semi-finals were played and this weekend the winners of these games are scheduled to play the grand-final. It has come to our attention that in the Men’s semi-final played between Southern Districts Spartans and Brisbane Capitals a player who had not played sufficient games to qualify for finals played.
Stadium Scoring statistics showed that the player in question played six (6) games; however, upon further investigation of information it has been revealed that the player had not played the required five (5) season games to qualify to play in finals.
This investigation also revealed that the most appropriate manner in which to deal with this issue was to replay the semi-final; however, the ineligible player would not be permitted to compete.
As a consequence, the semi-final between Southern Districts Spartans and Brisbane Capitals will be replayed at 3:30pm at the Rowland Cowan Stadium, the time and place scheduled for the SBL Men’s grand-final. The time and venue for the grand-final following the replayed semi-final will be determined following the outcome of this game.
We believe that this is the fairest and most appropriate manner in which to deal with this issue.
