Derick Newton to Play for Mackay Meteors in QBL 2019
The McDonald’s Mackay Meteors are proud to announce that they have signed 6ft 6 forward, Derick Newton for the 2019 QBL season.
Derick’s Basketball History
Derick played his college career at Stetson University and averaged 17.8 points and 5.7 rebounds for Stetson in his sophomore year. He was also named All Atlantic Sun Freshman of the year in 2016 and was named in the All Atlantic sun Second team in 2017. Newton most recently has been playing in the G League for the Windy City Bulls.
Meteors Head Coach Says Newton’s Versatility will be a Huge Factor
Head Coach, Jason Borg was extremely happy that Derick had signed with the Meteors. “After a pretty long search, we believe that Derick can provide the team with great scoring punch and will suit the system that we are looking to play. Derick can score in many different ways and we believe that his versatility will be a huge factor for the Meteors this season.”
Newton was also extremely happy to be joining the Meteors in 2019 and said, “ I truly appreciate the opportunity that Mackay has given me. I see the program has had much success over the years and I can’t wait to add more to it. This will be my first team outside of the USA and I have heard Mackay is a wonderful city and I can’t wait to get there and get started.”
