IPSWICH Force teams made impressive starts in this year’s Queensland Basketball League, overpowering Gold Coast opponents.
The Force men won 121-98 with American import James Legan nailing six three-pointers in his 46 point haul.
Captain Zarryon Fereti (29) and vice-captain Jason Ralph (19) also made valuable contributions at Ipswich stadium.
With another import Kyle Harvey to return, the Force look strong.
“We had a really tough pre-season, probably harder than we’ve all worked ever,” Fereti said.
“It was good to actually get on court, start the season and have all that hard work pay off.”
The Force women also won well, leading the Rollers by as much as 26 points on their way to a 91-72 win at Booval.
“It was just a good early comfortable win,” coach Brad George said, keen to improve his team’s fluency.
Newcomer Bree Farley scored 16 points, providing good support to American imports Chelsie Schweers (28) and Brandi Brown (18).
Originally from South Australia, Farley is keen to enjoy Queensland’s warmer climate. She’s returned from stints in the United States and Portugal.

Both Force teams play Toowoomba in Saturday night’s next state league games at Ipswich stadium.
