Toowoomba Mountaineers rope in new guard Malene Washington

An exciting new guard has been welcomed on to the Toowoomba Mountaineers women’s team leading into the 2018 season. USA aspiring basketball star, Malene Washington is coming to join the Toowoomba Mountaineers for their 2018 season straight off her run with the University of Arizona’s Arizona Wildcats women’s basketball team.

Toowoomba Mountaineers women’s coach Ezy Parsons says the new sign on is a steal for the Mountaineers and she can’t wait to see what the promising young player has to offer.

“Malene was averaging 13 points a game for her games with the Arizona team, her experience alone will be a huge asset,” Ms Parsons Said.

“She will make a great point general and will be able to help the younger girls by providing tips and knowledge while also being a promising player herself.”

Flying in from Houston 24 March, Ms Washington will hit the ground running as she starts practice with the team the week she lands, ready for the season to start in April.

Ms Washington was given the opportunity to play with the Mountaineers through her Agent’s close connections and is said to be excited to have the chance to play in Australia.

Season 2018 kicks off with Game 1 on Friday 27 April with the Mountaineers taking on the Cairns Marlins at USQ Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre, 20 Baker St, Darling Heights.
