Skytran Marlins sign Taipan’s Loughton and Tragardh

The Skytrans Cairns Marlins’ 2016 QBL campaign received a boost today with the signing of veteran CQUniversity Cairns Taipans forwards Cameron Tragardh and Alex Loughton.

The pair provide the Marlins with crucial firepower and size in the frontcourt, following the departure of big men Matt Andronicos (Bendigo) and Matt Smith (retired).

Head coach Jamie Pearlman said their combined 18 seasons and 556 games of NBL experience will help his young squad challenge powerhouse QBL sides such as Rockhampton and Mackay.

In a monumental day for Mackay Basketball, the association is pleased to announce that it has secured a significant partnership with McDonald’s Restaurants in Mackay.
McDonald’s will back the Meteors in the Queensland Basketball League as the team’s exclusive naming rights sponsor for an eighth straight campaign, while also agreeing to terms as the new naming rights partner of the Mackay Multi-Sports Stadium.

Meteors Names for All-Star Clash

There will be a distinctive local feel when the McDonald’s Meteors All-Star game gets underway this Saturday night, with seventeen of the twenty-six competing players being products of the Mackay Basketball junior system.

The Meteors ‘Red’ team is headlined by Australian Boomers squad member Clint Steindl and also features last year’s club Most Valuable Player Chris Cedar. Towering former Townsville Crocodiles NBL player Greg Vanderjagt will also start for Red at centre.

Import Wiggins Signs with Meteors

The McDonald’s Mackay Meteors have filled their first import spot for the 2016 Queensland Basketball League season, with 25-year old Toronto native Nicholas Wiggins signing with the club.

An athletic, 198cm swingman, “Nick” Wiggins played two seasons at Wichita State University after transferring from Wabash Valley College in 2012. He played in 36-games for the ‘Shockers’ as a senior in 2013-14, averaging 5.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.

The McDonalds Rockhampton Rockets are pleased to announce the signing of American import Jordan Gregory for the upcoming 2016 season.

Jordan is a shooting guard who played collegiately at Montana University, where he played 4 years of Div 1 College basketball. He was selected First Team All Big Sky Conference and was also recognized for his outstanding post-season play with All-Tournament First Team selection.   Jordan was co-captain on a team that played in 3 Conference championship games over his 4 years.
